Fatima Jinnah Women University, was established in 1998 as the first university for women in Pakistan, and has been a trailblazer of General Education with unique offerings of 64 Programs ranging from STEM fields to Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences. Having community and regional development as its core value and goal, which is embedded as one of the degree programs requirements, the university has been making a valuable impact in the region with its research and community work.
During the pandemic situation FJWU as a pioneer (first female university in Pakistan) took an initiative of remote learning with its limited resources and trained and developed its staff (faculty and administration) with advance technological system to compete with the changing trends across the globe. The university leadership took emergency steps to bring FJWU at operational with the rest of the national universities and world having online presence.

International Recognition of Leadership of FJWU under Pandemic
Fatima Jinnah Women University receives another feather in its cap for being ranked 8th in Top 50 Global Universities and 101 in Top 200 World Universities with Real Impact (WURI) Rankings 2021. It is noteworthy that FJWU is one of the only two Pakistani universities, which made it to the Top 50 international universities ranking in Crisis Management. Fatima Jinnah Women University gained this recognition for its project titled, “Education Outreach: Dynamic Strategies in the Crisis of Covid-19 Pandemic”.

International Recognition of Leadership of FJWU for achieving SDGs
Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU), Rawalpindi, has achieved several milestones in 2020-2021, especially during the challenging times posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. The university under the dynamic leadership of its Vice Chancellor Dr. Saima Hamid, developed a holistic transformation plan to overcome the financial, administrative and academic hardships faced by the university, which encompassed formulating academic and evaluation policies, taking quick and responsive administrative measures, conducting trainings for teachers, staff and students, implementing academic and personal interventions e.g. academic advising and online counselling, and approving, monitoring and evaluating the delivery of online/hybrid education through a rigorous Quality Assurance mechanism based on global standards for online education.
In this context, QEC at FJWU participated in two International Ranking systems and received global recognition of its efforts during the pandemic situation. FJWU participated in Times Higher Education Impact Ranking 2021, which is an international ranking to assess participating universities’ impact on local and global communities with respect to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). FJWU has secured 601st rank among Top 800 International Universities in its very first attempt, out of a total of 1115 universities ranked by Times Higher Education for Impact Rankings in 2021. This overall Impact Ranking puts FJWU in the 9th place among Top 10 Pakistani Universities out of a total of 36 Pakistani universities ranked by THE Impact Rankings in 2021. A breakdown of FJWU’s performance in each of the four SDGs is presented below:

Inauguration of SDG wall
In addition to the above, FJWU also established research center for SDGs by inaugurating SDG wall in FJWU premises. Dr Saima Hamid, Vice Chancellor of Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) said that higher education community is playing an important role in the implementation of the SDGs. Fatima Jinnah Women University’s vision is: To aspire and innovate for a sustainable future by promoting higher education, research, collaboration and community engagement to achieve societal empowerment. Universities can play an active role in the implementation of the SDGs. Academia, alongside with think tanks and other institutions like SSDO can play a pivotal role in advancing the SDGs agenda. FJWU through its ORIC office is consolidating its linkages with social sector and industry. The department of Sociology, FJWU is recognized for under taking this important initiative to create awareness among faculty and students about SDGs.

First Women Universities Consortium in Pakistan
FJWU Leadership Collaboration for Women Empowerment
Fatima Jinnah Women University joined hands with women universities to form the First Women Universities Consortium in Pakistan to improve the effectiveness of female higher education institutions through inter-university cooperation on October 15, 2021. Vice Chancellor Fatima Jinnah Women University Dr. Saima Hamid shared the objectives of APWUC in terms of increasing the role of Pakistani women in the socio-economic development of Pakistan in line with the global priorities. She regretted that Pakistan lags far behind other nations in the Global Gender Gap Index. The APWUC, she said, will provide the women playing a leadership role in academia to come together to overcome the challenges in the way of women empowerment.

Doctoral Spring School
The 2nd AMCAP Doctoral Spring School 2021, hosted by Fatima Jinnah Women University, aimed to strengthen the structure and content of Communication and Media Studies PhD research projects in Pakistan in collaboration with Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) and International Association of Media and Communication Research (IAMCR).

Leadership Commitment towards Suicidal Prevention (Hope through Action)
FJWU launched the Pakistan’s first suicide prevention center with the support of the University of Manchester with an aim to deal with the trend of suicide. FJWU organized the observance of World Suicide Prevention Day in collaboration with Pakistan Institute of Living and Learning, Secretariat Parliamentary Task Force on sustainable development goals (SDGs), and Global Mental Health Research Group, the University of Manchester, UK.

FJWU Leadership extend counseling services to the community
FJWU extend the services of Wellbeing center to community specifically to working women who are multitasking and faced psychosocial issues during pandemic. The trained staff of center addressed the individual concerns related to their academics, social and/or personal life and contribute during the pandemic situation.

FJWU Leadership support for needy students
FJWU visionary leadership raised the SAFE Scholarship through departmental voluntary fundraising activities for the sponsorship of extending quality education to needy students who were directly affected during pandemic activities.
The university put in its utmost efforts to expand this fund by organizing various fund-raising activities every semester as per MoU signed between PEP and the university. Students and faculty members are mobilized to raise funds through various co-curricular activities.
Fund raising activities like movie screening, fun gala, food stalls, cultural shows etc are organized by the students and faculty members of each Department for raising funds twice a year in fall semester (November /December) and spring semester (March/April) every year. Each department is required to conduct fund raising activities once a year (when convenient) either in Fall semester (in November and December) or in spring semester (in March and April).
Donations are accepted either institutional / individual / personal to enhance the base of the endowment fund. 50% proceeds of the investment are used for scholarships and capacity building / program for direct benefit of the students and other half of the gains together with the principle are invested so that SAFE become a source of awarding scholarships in perpetuity.
